Mclaren shocks Striegl, wins by submission in ONE Championship: Spirit of Champions
Despite agreeing to the fight on a late notice, Reece Mclaren turned out to be a handful for fast-rising Fil-Am mixed martial arts fighter Mark Striegl.
Mclaren, 24, submitted the submission specialist in Striegl in the co-main event of ONE Championship: Spirit of Champions, Friday, at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
Striegl immediately went to his familiar territory in round one, taking Mclaren to the mat in the opening minute of the fight.
Mclaren went for Striegl's right leg, chopping the latter's lower section with hard kicks. Striegl managed to drop Mclaren with an elbow followed by a soccer kick in round two, but wasn't able to finish the Australian.
A visually exhausted Striegl was taken to the ground in round three. After going for some ground and pound against Striegl, Mclaren transitioned to secure a rear naked choke, making Striegl tap at the 3:33 mark of round three.
The upset victory improved Mclaren's record to 8-3 while Striegl dropped to 14-2. - JM Siasat/RAF, GMA News
