MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

Pinoy fighter Eduard Folayang decisions Japanese foe

Filipino mixed martial arts fan favorite Eduard Folayang of Baguio City's Team Lakay is back to his winning ways after defeating Tetsuya Yamada of Japan in the co-main event of ONE Championship: Clash of Heroes Friday night, at Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Folayang, who is coming off a first round knockout loss in December 2014, showcased his vintage form in the opening round by throw spinning kicks at Yamada.

With a cut drawn on his nose in round two due to strikes, Yamada was looked to take the fight to the ground instead but the Filipino was able to pacify most of his takedown attempts.

Yamada was able to take Folayang to the mat in the third but only to be returned to their feet by the referee. After three five-minute rounds, Folayang was awarded a unanimous decision nod over Yamada.

The win improved Folayang's record to 15-5 while Yamada dropped to 15-4-2. — APG, GMA News
