The Perps Squad is back on top of the NCAA cheerleading heap.

Bouncing back after losing its crown last year, Perpetual Help toppled defending champion Arellano University to win the NCAA Season 91 cheerleading competition.

"It's a good feeling to win it again," said Perpetual Help coach Ruf Rosario.

"We really worked and prepared hard to regain the title," added Perpetual team captain Mark Espinas.

Perpetual scored 195 points for its routine, beating Arellano's 193 for its ninth title in the cheerleading competition.

But the Perps Squad had to survive a collapse near the end of its routine, when it failed to complete an all-male reverse pyramid.

"I was surprised we didn't complete it because of all stunts it was the easiest," said Rosario.

The coach said the squad learned its lesson from last year, when several mistakes cost the squad the crown.

"We knew for us to win, we need to minimize mistakes and that's what we've done," he said.

Emilio Aguinaldo finished third with 145 points. —JST, GMA News
