Ex-Palawan Gov. Baham Mitra named Games and Amusement Board chair

Former Palawan Governor Abraham Khalil "Baham" Mitra has been appointed as the new chairman of the Games and Amusement Board (GAB).

The youngest son of the late and former House Speaker Ramon Mitra Jr., Baham took over the position previously held by Juan Ramon Guanzon, a statement from the GAB said.

His marching order was signed on July 15.

The press statement quoted Mitra as lauding the achievements of the previous officials that managed GAB, which supervises professional sports and games like boxing, mixed martial arts, basketball, horse racing, and cockfighting, among others.

“We have seen the progressive propagation  of professional boxing, and other professional sports - thanks and gratitude to those who have come before us in this respectable office," he said.

"We will sustain and move forward as we envision to achieve greater milestones,” he added.

Baham Mitra served as Presidential Consultant for Palawan from 1998 until 2000.

He represented the second district of Palawan at the House of Representatives for three consecutive terms until 2010, when he decided to run as governor of Palawan. He served as Palawan governor for only one term. — Jessica Bartolome/RSJ, GMA News
