ONE Chairman: 'ONE Championship app will change the world of sports'
SINGAPORE - ONE Championship chairman Chatri Sityodtong is a firm believer that the promotion's mobile app is a step towards changing the landscape of sports around the globe.
The app, which allows fans to watch ONE Championship live events and its library of digital content for free, was released early this month and can be downloaded on both Android and iOS platforms.
"The world's most valuable sports property today is NFL, it is worth 75 billion dollars," Sityodtong quipped.
"I genuinely believe in my heart that ONE Championship will become the world's biggest media sports property. We will surpass NFL, a single American football played within the country with only 325 million people."
It was a bold move from Asia's top mixed martial arts organization as they had to discontinue selling pay-per-view for its fights. And, while the app could seemingly reduce the company's revenue, Sityodtong rather sees it as an investment and is focused on its long-term effects.
"Asia, the home of martial arts with 5000 years of history has 4.4 billion people. If 4.4 billion people download the ONE Championship app and are watching it, I don't think I have to worry," said Sityodtong.
"This is going to be a power move and it's going to change the world of sports forever." — BAP, GMA News
