PHL Lady Volcanoes defeat India in Asia Rugby match
The Philippine Lady Volcanoes showcased a strong performance, conquering India's team 19-5 in the Asia Rugby Women's Championship Division 1 in Singapore after a six-year hiatus.
"I was happy with our performance yesterday, such a great feeling winning the first game of the team's comeback after 6 years," said team captain Aiumi Ono in a press release on Wednesday.
The game between the two countries was tight for most of the first half of the game. It was Lady Volcanoes' star player Sylvia Tudoc who secured the first points for the Philippines while rookie Agot Danton of the Davao Durians added the extra two points to take the first half off to a seven points to nil lead.
After the half-time break, possession was obtained by the Lady Volcanoes, attacking the Indian defensive line consistently.
With back to back penalties, Philippine back-rower Tanya Bird then graced the team with an extra boost. Danton also added the extra points to spearhead the Philippines with 14 points up.
During the second half, leader Ada Milby joined the match and contributed additional points for the team. A five pointer after pressure on pressure from the Philippine team made it 19 to 0 with time to spare.
