2 Team Lakay fighters see action in ONE Championship card in China

MANILA - Former ONE featherweight champion Honorio Banario and hard-hitting featherweight Edward Kelly of Team Lakay will both see action on the undercard of "ONE: Beyond the Horizon" on September 8 at Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, China.

Banario, 28, is on a five-fight winning streak and is tasked to face young Singaporean striker Amir Khan.

A win on fight night would draw Banario closer to a title shot, and he's confident of his chances because of the growth he's had throughout the years.

"I have made it a point to do what I can to improve my grappling. Everyone knows my weakness has always been grappling, but that’s what we do, we focus on plugging those holes and erasing our weaknesses," said Banario.

"I have been traveling all over the Philippines, visiting various gyms, especially in Manila, working on my wrestling and grappling. Compared to maybe three years ago, my grappling right now is much smoother than before. I am a more complete MMA fighter."

Kelly, meanwhile, will look to get back to his winning ways against the 20-year-old one-time world title challenger Christian Lee.

Kelly, who starred in several viral videos in the past due to his devastating knockout finishes, suffered a TKO defeat in his last outing against former ONE featherweight champion Narantungalag Jadambaa. — DVM, GMA News
