Skateboarder Margielyn Didal bags 4th PHL gold in Asian Games

A woman skateboarder bagged the Philippines' fourth gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games currently being held in Indonesia.

According to the Philippine Sports Commission, 19-year-old Margielyn Didal won gold in the Women's Street Final.

Didal, a native of Cebu, won over Kaya Isa of Japan and Bunga Nyimas of Indonesia.

With Didal's victory, the Philippines now ranks 16th overall in the Asiad, with four gold medals and 13 bronze medals for a total of 17.

Before Didal, four other Filipinas have won gold for the Philippines in the 2018 Asian Games, namely weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz and golfers Yuka Saso, Bianca Pagdanganan and Kaye Go.

Diaz won the gold medal in the women's 53-kg. weightlifting competition, while Saso won an individual gold medal in women's golf, before teaming up with Pagdanganan and Go for the team gold in the sport.

According to the 2018 Asian Games website, Didal became the first Filipino skateboarder — male or female — to get an invitation to the X Games by being invited for the 2018 X Games in the US.

In 2018 she became the first Filipino skateboarder to compete in the Street League Skateboarding by taking part in the SLS PRO Open in London, England. —KBK, GMA News
