UAAP releases revised drum policy: 4 bass, 2 snare drums at big venues

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) on Tuesday released its revised guidelines on the use of drums during games for its upcoming 81st season.

From the current five, the board reduced the number of allowed bass drums to four, while the number of snare drums will remain at two. The new policy is applicable to big venues such as the Smart-Araneta Coliseum and the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Board also urged "that the drumming be more in tune with the ebb and flow of the games." Banging the drums during timeouts and interval of play is prohibited.

UAAP executive director Rebo Saguisag said the new policy is for the improvement of communication between athletes, coaches, and officials during games.

Meanwhile, the old policy on drums for smaller game venues, which allows the use of one bass and one snare drum during games, is still in effect.
