Champs Carlos Yulo, Nesthy Petecio get cash rewards from Duterte

President Rodrigo Duterte has awarded P1 million to gold medalists Carlos Yulo, Nesthy Petecio, and Ernest John Obiena for their respective feats on the world stage, Senator Bong Go said on Wednesday.

During a courtesy call in Malacañang, Duterte met the victorious athletes and posed for a “fist bump” photo.

Yulo bagged the men’s floor title in the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Germany last Saturday.

Petecio brought home the gold in the featherweight division of the 2019 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championship in Russia last Sunday.

In September, Obiena became the first Filipino to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after winning in the Men's Pole Vault competition of the Salto Con L'asta In Piazza Chiari 2019 in Italy.

Filipino silver medalists, Hidilyn Diaz and Eumir Felix Marcial, meanwhile took home P500,000 each.

Weightlifter Diaz bagged the gold in 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.

Marcial won silver in the middleweight division of the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships in Russia last Saturday. —NB, GMA News
