PH kickboxing team to train in Cambodia in preparation for SEA Games

The Philippines' eight-man kickboxing team was sent to Cambodia for further training in preparation for the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

According to Senator Francis Tolentino, President of the Samahang Kickboxing ng Pilipinas (SLP), the fighters, with their Philippine kickboxing coaches Glenn Mondol and Donald Geisler III, would train in Cambodia until November 9.

“Our Filipino kickboxers have been training diligently in the past months. I am convinced that they have a very good chance in the coming SEA Games," Tolentino said in a statement.

"Training in Seam Reap will surely increase our athletes’ endurance and combat skills, and enable them to develop sharper techniques through sparring with more experienced kickboxers ” he added.

Eight Kickboxing events were lined up in the SEA Games, initially scheduled from December 7 to 10 at the Cuneta Astrodome.

The SEA Games will be held from November 30 to December 11.

Kickboxing was included for the first time in the list of events for the biennial sports meet together with other combat sports such as Arnis, Ju-jitsu, Kurash, and Sambo.

According to Tolentino, there were several Filipino kickboxers and other combat athletes in the country who were in need of training and support to develop their skills and competitiveness in international sports tournaments. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
