Hidilyn Diaz delivers gold in SEA Games weightlifting to hometown cheers

Hidilyn Diaz added a Southeast Asian Games gold medal to her collection after winning the women's 55kg weightlifting competition on Monday.

The Philippine weightlifting icon lifted 91kg in the snatch and 120kg in the clean and jerk to run away with gold before an appreciative hometown crowd at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Diaz won her first SEA Games crown after winning silver in the 2016 Olympics and gold in the 2018 Asian Games.

"Thank you very much for the support," she said to television cameras after completing her lifts.

Diaz was denied a chance to give the country a gold medal in the 2017 SEA Games after host Malaysia scrapped women's weightlifting that year.

The 28-year-old already competed in three SEA Games (2007, 2011, 2013) and delivered two silver medals and a bronze for the country.

Recently, she also collected two bronze medals in the 2019 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championship in Pattaya, Thailand in September.
