Filipino boxers sweep SEA Games quarterfinals

Filipino boxers completed a sweep in the quarterfinal fights of the Southeast Asian Games at the PICC Forum in Pasay City Wednesday.

Josie Gabuco defeated Thailand's Chuthailan Raksat via split decision, 4-1, in the women's light flyweight 48kg category for the Philippines' first win of the day.

Aira Villegas followed it with a unanimous victory over Laos' Vilay Vongphachan, 5-0, in the women's bantamweight 54kg event.

Meanwhile, in the men's division, Carlo Paalam dominated Laos' Khamp Khamsathone, 5-0, in the men's light flyweight 46-49kg category for the home team's third victory of the day.

Irish Magno completed the sweep for the Philippines after dispatching Singapore's Leona Hui, 5-0, in the women's flyweight 51kg event.

The semifinals will be held on December 6, Friday, at the same venue. —MGP, GMA News
