Hermie Macaranas notches silver in canoe

The Philippine canoe kayak team added its first medal in the Philippines' medal haul in the Southeast Asian Games on Friday at the Malawaan Park in Subic Bay.

Hermie Macaranas, the Philippine representative to the men's single 1000M event, bagged the silver medal after clocking in 04:21.67. He eclipsed third placer Marjuki Marjuki of Indonesia who ended the race with a 04:24.21 record.

Thailand's Mahawattanangkul Pitpiboon got the gold medal with a race time of 04:19.94.
