Rowing adds 2 gold medals to PHL medal haul


Filipino rower Cris Nievarez bagged the country's first gold medal on Day 7 of the Southeast Asian Games at the Triboa Bay, Subic on Saturday.

Nievarez raced to first place in the men's lightweight single sculls after winning Friday's time trials. He clocked in at 7:34.27, beating Thailand's Siripong Chaiwichitchonkul 7:35.01 for the gold.

Indonesia's Kakan Kusmana took the bronze with a time of 7:39.54.

In the women's lightweight double sculls, Joanie Delgaco and Melcah Caballero also notched the gold medal with a time of 7:24.21.

Vietnam's Thi Hao Dinh and Thanh Huyen Ta took the silver, clocking in more than three seconds behind the Filipina rowers with 7:27.65.

Myanmar's Shwe Zin Latt and Nilar Win registered a time of 7:30.23 for the bronze.
