PHL men’s squad seizes gold in SEA Games soft tennis

The Philippine men's soft tennis team on Tuesday added a gold medal to the country's tally in the 30th Southeast Asian Games at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

The men's home squad slipped past Thailand, 2-1, to capture gold in the men's team event.

The Filipino duo of Noel Damian Jr. and Mark Anthony Alcoseba lost to Thailand's Sakan Thansiriroj and Thanarit Surarak in the first doubles match, 3-5.

The Thais were a match away from the gold when Joseph Arcilla defeated Kawin Yannarit, 4-1, in the singles match to force a deciding doubles match.

The tandem of Mikoff Manduriao and Dheo Talatayod then outlasted Thailand' Teerapat Sujaritplee and Torlarp Songweera, 5-3, in the last doubles match to win the game.

Soft tennis has already contributed a total of five medals for the country behind a 4-0-1 gold-silver-bronze haul.
