Sports Summit, Nat’l Games postponed indefinitely due to nCoV alert

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) on Thursday said that some of the athletic meets it handled would temporarily be put on hold as a precautionary measure against the possible spread of the novel coronavirus.

"PSC-managed events such as the National Sports Summit 2020, Philippine National Games, Children's Games and other activities has been postponed indefinitely in light of the 2019-nCoV outbreak," it said in an advisory.

The National Sports Summit was supposed to be held on February 27 to 28 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

Formal recommendations were also made to postpone the 2020 ASEAN Paragames—which has previously been rescheduled to March from its original slate in January.

The ASEAN Para Games is a biennial, multi-sport event for differently-abled athletes.

Three confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection were reported in the Philippines, one of whom became the first fatality outside China.

The Department of Health recorded a total of 133 persons under investigation across 13 regions, as of Wednesday afternoon. —NB, GMA News
