Fil-Australian chess player Arianne Caoili passes away

Filipino-Australian chess player Arianne Caoili has died after sustaining injuries in a car crash in Armenia.

She was 33 years old.

Her husband, fellow chess player Levon Aronian, confirmed her death on Twitter.

"I have no words to express the grievance over my wife Arianne's death. She was intelligent, hard working and joyous person that lived a beautiful life..." he said. "I love you honeybun, sleep tight..."

In a tweet, the Philippine Sports Commission thanked Caoili for her contributions to Philippine chess.

"She is well-known for leading the Women’s Philippine Team in the World Chess Olympiads until 2004 at a young age," the PSC said.

Caoili won the Oceania women's chess championship in 2009 and held the title Woman International Master. --MGP, GMA News
