MANILA — The world’s premier mixed martial arts promotion UFC gave a sneak peek of its octagon being assembled in Fight Island.
Fight Island is a private venue located in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi where audience-free events are slated to take place during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The organization received strong criticisms for its “show must go on” approach amidst the dangers of the pandemic. Just last month, Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza tested positive for COVID-19 after the weigh-in which was a day before UFC 249. He was immediately pulled out of the fight as a result.
For months, UFC president Dana White has talked about a setting up a safe venue on a private island for fights to take place.
