UFC 251 generates around 1.3M PPV buys - report

If initial reports are to be believed, UFC’s first pay-per-view at Fight Island was a massive success.

According to the sources of The Athletic, UFC 251 has generated around 1,300,000 million buys for its audience-free event this past weekend.

The show was headlined by fan-favorite Jorge Masvidal, who took the fight with six days’ notice, against reigning UFC welterweight world champion Kamaru Usman.

The main event was far from exciting, to say the least, but it featured a game Masvidal who held his own against the champion for five rounds despite being a late replacement.

“The overwhelming amount of support I have received before, during, and after this journey has been humbling,” Masvidal wrote on Twitter thanking the fans.

“Still got a lot of goals to meet. All of you that tuned in to see me win, thank you. Those that tuned in to see me lose, thank you.”

In the co-main event, UFC featherweight world champion Alexander Volkanovski defeated Max Holloway in a controversial split decision.

Also on the card, Russian striker Petr Yan captured the vacant UFC bantamweight world title after he defeated former UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo.

UFC 251 would turn out to be the best selling event PPV event from the organization since UFC 229 in 2018 that was headlined by Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. -- BAP, GMA News
