Geje Eustaquio eager to test his striking against Muay Thai champion

Geje Eustaquio of Baguio City’s Team Lakay once stood at the pinnacle of mixed martial arts but his journey is far from over as he looks to dive deeper into the fight game.

The former ONE flyweight world champion now has his sights on possibly sharing the ring with Muay Thai veteran Rodtang Jitmuangnon, who currently holds the ONE flyweight Muay Thai title.

“It would be a privilege for me to compete in ONE Super Series among legends, but right now, I’m just focused on my MMA career and looking to get back on track. But yes definitely, I want to test my striking against the best in the world,” said Eustaquio.

“I think Rodtang is a tremendous athlete and a big inspiration to many. Even though he’s the champion, he never forgets where he came from. You can still find humility in him, and I have so much respect for him.”

Eustaquio’s title reign ended in January 2019 where he lost the ONE flyweight world title by a controversial unanimous decision in a trilogy with his rival Adriano Moraes.

He won his two of his next three fights after that fateful night but ultimately missed cracking a spot in the official top five rankings of ONE Championship.

Eustaquio stressed that his current goal is to regain the gold-plated strap while reiterating his desire to compete against Jitmuangnon be it in Muay Thai or MMA.

“I want to test my striking against the best in the world,” he stated.

“One day it would be an honor for me to share the ONE Super Series ring with this legend or maybe, if he wants to shift over to MMA, I can put together a welcome party.”  -- BAP, GMA News
