Team Lakay head coach wants flyweight king next for Danny Kingad

Team Lakay’s head coach Mark Sangiao is raring to see Danny Kingad fight the current ONE flyweight world champion Adriano Moraes one more time.

Kingad and Moraes crossed paths in November 2017 where the champion triumphed by way of first-round submission which gave the Team Lakay star his first defeat as a pro MMA fighter.

The 24-year-old Kingad rebounded from that loss and won six straight fights until he met former UFC flyweight world champion Demetrious Johnson in the finals of the ONE flyweight world grand prix where he lost via unanimous decision.

The loss to the MMA pound-for-pound great proved costly for the Baguio City native as he also lost a chance to face Moraes anew for the world title. In his last fight this past January, Kingad went back to the winner’s circle with a unanimous decision nod over Xie Wei.

“Whether Adriano Moraes will remain champion after his fight with Demetrious Johnson, that remains to be seen. But whether or not Moraes is champion, Danny is ready to fight him,” said Sangiao.

“Danny has improved so much in just the span of three years. He’s worked so hard in every facet of his game. There’s no stopping this young man from achieving his goals,” he added.

“Fans will be surprised with just how good Danny is now compared to just a few months ago. He’s used this time off wisely to refocus and rededicate himself to proving himself as one of the best in the world at his weight class.”

Team Lakay is convinced that Kingad did not have the confidence nor the experience to beat Moraes in their first meeting. But after winning seven of his eight fights over top-notch competition after that fateful night, Sangiao is convinced that his ward would emerge victorious in a rematch.

“I think Danny learned so much from the first fight with Adriano, and now he’s a completely different fighter,” Sangiao stressed.

“He has so much more experience. I know Danny will beat Adriano the next time they meet in the Circle.” — LA, GMA News
