Khabib Nurmagomedov ponders what's next after UFC 254

Reigning UFC lightweight world champion Khabib Nurmagomedov does not know where he is heading after his next title defense.

The 32-year-old from Dagestan, Russia is set to defend his gold-plated strap against UFC interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC 254 on October 24 at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.

After dominating every opponent on his way to a perfect record of 28-0 thus far, even Nurmagomedov seems baffled what is next for him.

“I don't know. For example, I'm going to finish Justin Gaethje inside the cage on October 24, what else? This is a very good question. We'll see,” said Nurmagomedov during the UFC 254 virtual press conference.

“I love competition. I love to compete with the best fighters in the world that's why I'm here. I'm not in the UFC to make money I have lots of business projects outside the UFC. I can make money.”

Past reports stated that Nurmagomedov planning to retire when he makes it to 30-0. Should he beat Gaethje, Team Nurmagomedov is reported to want a match with retired two-division champion Georges St. Pierre, who is touted by many as the greatest of all time in MMA.

And while a fight with St. Pierre remains a pipe dream, the Russian wrestler revealed that UFC president Dana White has something huge for him after his next fight.

“I don't think [retirement comes after]. We have a couple of options we're going to think about it after this fight,” noted Nurmagomedov.

“Dana told me after this fight he has something special for me but I told him to please keep it after the fight we're going to talk. He says we have very big things after this fight for me. We'll see.” -- BAP, GMA News
