Kingad vs Akhmetov called off after Team Lakay cornerman tests positive for COVID-19

The highly anticipated matchup between Danny Kingad and former ONE flyweight world champion Kairat Akhmetov has been called off after a cornerman from Team Lakay tested positive for COVID-19.

The promotion did not disclose the name of the infected individual. ONE Championship plans to reschedule the bout but is yet to make an announcement.

Kingad and Akhmetov were initially scheduled to lock horns on the undercard of ONE: Big Bang on Friday, December 4 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. 

The recent development paved way for another Filipino mixed martial arts fighter to feature on the event. One-time world title challenger Rene Catalan has been added to the card against Bokang Masunyane in a three, five-minute round contest.
