Philippines’ Alex Eala bags first pro title
Filipina tennis player Alex Eala claimed her first title in a professional competition after defeating Spaniard Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, in the W15 ITF Manacor Tournament on Sunday.
Cavalle-Reimers won the first set, but Eala powered through in the second and final set to seal the deal.
Prior to the Finals, Eala defeated Hong Kong's Adithya Karunaratne in the semis, and France's Carole Monnet in the quarters.
The 15-year old Eala will bring home a $15,000 cash prize.
Last year, Eala won the juniors doubles title in the Australian Open alongside Indonesian partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho.
She also reached the semis of the French Open girls' tournament. — Justin Kenneth Carandang/BM, GMA News
