Denice Zamboanga battles ex-UFC fighter at ONE: Empower

Filipina mixed martial arts contender Denice Zamboanga is in for an acid test in the first round of the ONE women’s atomweight world grand prix when she takes on Seo Hee Ham at ONE: Empower on May 28.

The 34-year-old South Korean is a veteran of 31 professional fights with a record of 23-8. She has previously competed in the world’s premier MMA promotion UFC, Rizin, Road FC, Deep, and Jewels.

“Ham is a very experienced fighter, the most experienced out of all of us. I'm not taking her lightly by any means. She's held multiple world titles in different organizations, and she's a legit, well-rounded striker,” said Zamboanga.

Zamboanga, rated as the number one mixed martial artist in the ONE women’s atomweight division, last saw action against Watsyapinya Kaewkhong last August where she won by way of first-round submission.

"The Menace" concedes that she is in for a tough evening against the former UFC fighter, but is not in any way intimidated citing accustomed to battling tough opponents in her young career.

“It's going to be a tough challenge, no doubt. I think this is the biggest challenge I could face in this tournament, especially for a first-round matchup. But this is what I live for, to test myself against the best,” Zamboanga stated.

“I didn't get to where I am by facing easy opponents. I'm heading into this fight with the best Denice Zamboanga you've ever seen.” -- BAP, GMA News
