Eumir Marcial says Thirdy Ravena reached out to him to offer help for Olympic preps
Olympic-bound boxer Eumir Marcial said fellow athlete Thirdy Ravena reached out to him and offered help for his preparations for the Tokyo Olympics.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Marcial shared a photo of what he said was Ravena's message that he received 'days ago.'
"I saw your post in social media, I just want to ask if I can help even by giving just a small amount for your needs. I want your team to win," the message in Marcial's photo said in Filipino.
Marcial also praised his fellow athlete and wrote in the caption, "The only person who can understand us most or better is our fellow athletes, [they are also the ones] who understands our sacrifices for the country."
"I hope that idol Thirdy Ravena will become an inspiration and will influence other Filipino athletes to help one another in different ways. I also wish that it can influence sports lovers and most especially our sports leaders," added Marcial.
The boxer's post came days after he aired his sentiments on the 'insufficient' monthly allowance they receive as national athletes in preparation for their campaign in the Tokyo Games.
The Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines (ABAP) previously said they have given Marcial different kinds of support for his Olympic bid.
In another Facebook post hours later, Marcial reacted to a news report that quoted ABAP president Ricky Vargas and called on the boxer to 'put love of country on top.'
"How can you say that my love for giving honor to the country is not my utmost priority? When in fact, the very first day I joined the national team, that was what I wanted for myself, for my family, and for my beloved country of the Philippines," wrote Marcial.
Marcial is one of the eight Filipino athletes who have already booked their slot in the Olympics.
Ravena, meanwhile, plays for the San-En NeoPhoenix in the Japan Professional Basketball League. He has also recently inked a new contract with the team. — LA, GMA News
