Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala falls short in 2021 French Open debut

Alex Eala failed to complete a come-from-behind effort after suffering a 4-6, 7-6, 1-6 loss at the hands of Matilda Mutavdzic of Great Britain in the 2021 French Open Girls’ Singles tournament at the Stade Roland-Garros in Paris, France on Monday night (Manila time).

The Filipina teen tennis sensation entered the tourney as the second seed following her International Tennis Federation (ITF) juniors ranking at No. 3 but she fell short against lower-ranked Mutavdzic, who is currently at no. 19.

The 16-year-old Eala wasn't able to find her groove in the opening set which led to Mutavdzic winning it in good fashion, 4-6.

But Eala, who has seen action in nine professional tournaments this year, staged a scorching comeback by winning four-straight games en route to a convincing 7-6 second set win.

She, however, failed to close it out in the final set as the British netter wrapped the game at, 6-1.
