Alex Eala, Russian partner advance to 2021 French Open finals
Alex Eala and Russian partner Oksana Selekhmeteva are headed to the 2021 French Open girls doubles finals.
The Filipina tennis sensation and Selekhmeteva needed only 53 minutes to dispatch the Italian pair of Lisa Pigato and Eleonora Alvisi, 6-2, 6-1, in the semifinals round at the Stade Roland-Garros in Paris, France on Saturday morning (Manila time).
The victory also helped the Filipino-Russian tandem to keep its unscathed run in four rounds so far after sweeping Belarus’ Evialina Laskevich and Russia’s Alina Shcherbinina in the first and Belgium’s Sofia Costoulas and Finland’s Laura Hietaranta in the second round.
The top-seeded duo also had a clean slate against Croatia’s Petra Marcinko and Hungary’s Natalia Szabanin last Thursday in the quarterfinals, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-5).
Eala, 16, is looking to grab her second Grand Slam doubles title after winning the 2020 Australian Open title with Indonesian partner Priska Nugroho. -- BAP, GMA News
