Alex Eala excited, motivated for Wimbledon

Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala is looking forward to another Grand Slam tournament as she plays Wimbledon's The Championships early July.

Eala, who recently won the French Open girls doubles' title alongside Russian partner Oksana Selekhmeteva, said she is motivated to go to London and compete in her first Wimbledon tournament.

"I'm super excited to go to London. It's going to be my first time there and also my first time I'm competing on grass so that's definitely going to be a new experience, like how to adjust to it," Eala said in a press conference with Globe on June 20.

"I have been working hard and my team has been working on my areas of improvement, I would say," she said.

While Eala will play for the first time on the grass court, the 16-year old said, "Just because I'm changing surfaces doesn't mean I'm changing my game."

Eala, however, admitted that she just wants to continue improving, whatever may be the result of her next tournaments.

"I'm not really focusing on results right now. I try not to do that. My goals are just to improve my overall game and the results will just follow after."

Eala will start her Wimbledon juniors' games on July 5. Aside from the singles, she will also play in the doubles tournament, but she has yet to name her on-court partner.

If Eala wins in the Wimbledon, she just needs to win the US Open to complete the four Grand Slam titles. Aside from the recently concluded French Open, Eala already won the Australian Open juniors doubles title back in 2020.

Alex Eala is the International Tennis Federation's world no. 3 in junior girls' rankings. She is also currently Women's Tennis Association's no. 627.
