Alex Eala, Indonesian partner knocked out in second round of Wimbledon juniors doubles

Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala’s Wimbledon campaign ended early after she and Indonesian partner Priska Nugroho lost in the second round of the girls’ doubles tournament, 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 on Thursday (Friday in Manila).

The duo fell short against the team of Chelsea Fontenel of Switzerland and Ashlyn Krueger of the USA, who advanced to the quarterfinal round. The match lasted 1 hour and 36 minutes.

The pair of Eala and Nugroho had previously teamed up to win the 2020 Australian Open juniors doubles title, but could not replicate their success this time around.

Earlier in the playing day, Eala also bowed out in the girls’ singles tournament, falling to Spain’s Ane Mintegi Del Olmo, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 in a second round matchup.
