Fellow PH Olympians elated with Hidilyn Diaz' historic gold

Hidilyn Diaz' batchmates from the Philippines in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics could not contain their joy with the historic achievement by the Filipina weightlifter.

Pole vaulter EJ Obiena, another contender for a medal, took to social media his congratulatory messages to his fellow Olympian.

"History has been made! @Hidilyndiaz so crazy!!" he wrote in an Instagram story. "Congratulations po ate! Way to go! Wow! Just wow!"

Obiena himself said before that this batch of Filipino athletes heading to Tokyo is the one that has a potential to get the gold medal.

Taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa, also tweeted his excitement.

"Thank you for saving us HD!" he wrote.

Diaz won the Philippines' first gold after dominating the women's 55kg event in weightlifting.

Prior to this feat, the country had 3 silvers and 7 bronzes in its Olympic record.
