The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is tipped to hand out additional monetary incentives to Hidilyn Diaz after setting a new Olympic record in the women's -55kg in the Tokyo Olympics.

In a statement, PSC announced that Diaz will be receiving another P5 million as mandated by law.

"Under Republic Act 10699 or the expanded incentives act, national athletes and other athletes who surpass Philippine record or ranking in any measurable international sports competition shall be given cash incentives, the amount of which may be determined by the PSC," the statement read on Thursday.

"PSC officer-in-charge, Commissioner Celia Kiram confirmed that the additional incentive has already been approved, signed and ready for release."

As of posting, the Filipina weightlifter is tipped to receive P20.5 million from the government on top of prizes coming from private sectors.

Diaz lifted 127 kg in her last attempt in the clean and jerk, which paved the way for her winning the gold mint.

She also ended a 97-year gold medal drought for the Philippines.
