Ciryl Gane stops Derrick Lewis to win UFC heavyweight title at UFC 265
Ciryl Gane is the new UFC interim heavyweight champion after a fourth-round technical knockout victory over fan favorite Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC 265 on Sunday at the Toyota Center in Texas, United States.
Lewis allowed Gane to attack in the opening round, seemingly waiting to fire a counter-punch with his trademark right hand. But Gane was calculated throughout the round, taking his time before throwing strikes at his foe.
Gane started to let go of his punches and kicks in round two then targeted the leg the following round, while Lewis continuously waited to land a big shot but never got the opening he needed.
A hard jab stunned Lewis which allowed Gane to unload at will at his visually hurt opponent. Unable to defend himself, the referee stepped in to halt the contest at the 4:11 mark of round three.
The TKO victory improved Gane's unbeaten record to 10-0 while Lewis dropped to 25-8.
