MPL-PH slaps fine, two-week suspension on Kelra for unprofessional behavior

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines (MPL-PH) on Monday handed out several sanctions on Omega Esports player Grant Duane 'Kelra' Pillas following his homophobic remarks in a streamed game.

In a statement released on Monday, MPL-PH said Kelra was in violation of the league's rules 'for offensive comments against fellow professional players and showing of unprofessional behavior' during the said livestream.

The league said the 16-year old player was found to have violated rules on sexual harassment and discrimination and denigration.

With the offense, MPL PH handed out a two-week suspension for Kelra, which will start on the first day of the league's 8th season, and a warning to the player and his team Omega Esports.

A fine will also be imposed on Kelra, but the league did not specify the amount.

MPL-PH said all players will also be required to attend a gender sensitivity and sexual harassment seminar.

"MPL-PH Operating Committee does not tolerate any form of discrimination in the league and we expect our professional players to follow a strict code of conduct," the league said in a statement. "The MPL-Philippines is working with all the teams to produce a safe environment for everyone."

Omega Esports on Monday said they were 'saddened and disappointed' with Kelra's behavior.

"An internal investigation has begun to address the matter. We are also coordinating with MPL regarding this issue. Rest assured we are taking steps to ensure respect and professionalism above all among all our players," the team added.

On Sunday, Kelra apologized for his homophobic remarks referring to Blacklist International's Jhonmar "OhMyV33nus" Villaluna and Danerie "Wise" Rosario.

"Taos puso po akong humihingi ng tawad at pasensya sa lahat ng taong naapektuhan at nasaktan sa aking mga nasabi," Kelra wrote on his page.
