Swimmer Gary Bejino misses Tokyo Paralympics finals as he finishes last in individual medley

Gary Bejino failed to advance to the finals of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics as he wound up last in the men's 200m Individual Medley SM6 event on Thursday.

The Filipino para-swimmer finished with a time of 3 minutes and 17.19 seconds in the preliminary heats and placed sixth out of six contenders in Heat 2.

After all three heats, Bejino ranked last in the 17-man field as he exited the event.

Only the Top 8 swimmers will progress to the final round set later in the day.

Despite the loss, the 23-year-old will still return to the pool to compete in the 50m butterfly, 400m freestyle, and 100m backstroke events.

Joining Bejino in the Philippine team's campaign are swimmer Ernie Gawilan, wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan, discus thrower Jeanette Aceveda, and taekwondo jin Allain Ganapin. —JCB, GMA News
