SEA Games silver medalist Johanna Uy, mother killed in fire incident
Two-time 2019 SEA Games underwater hockey silver medalist Johanna Lim Uy passed away in fire incident on Wednesday, according to an Unang Balita report on Friday.
Also killed in the incident was Uy's mother Helen.
The two were trapped inside their house in Barangay Mariana in Quezon City when fire broke out on the wee hours of Wednesday.
Athletes and the Philippine Sports Commission mourn the passing of Uy and her mother.
Uy won two silver medals in the women's 4×3 and women's 6×6 events of the underwater hockey competition in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games that was held in the Philippines.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection-National Capital Region, the fire started around 5 a.m. on the first floor of the house. The house help was able to get out in time, but the two victims were not able to do so.
Two vehicles were also engulfed by fire.
