EJ Obiena matches season-best, rules Orlen Copernicus Cup

Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena bounced back on early Wednesday morning (Manila time) to match his best record in the indoor season and rule the Orlen Copernicus Cup in Torun, Poland.

Obiena needed three attempts to clear 5.81 meters, the only pole vaulter to finish it, and land on the top spot of the competition. He also tried to clear the 5.91-meter mark thrice but failed to do so.

Belgium's Ben Broeders, Brazil's Thiago Braz, and Netherland's Menno Vloon all cleared the 5.71-meter mark, but Broeders and Braz finished as second and third placers, respectively, due to countback. A total of 11 pole vaulters joined the competition.

Obiena's 5.81-meter performance in Torun tied his earlier record in Lodz where he also finished first.

On February 18, Obiena registered his worst performance of the season and finished 10th place
