Omega delivers vintage playoff form, sends Onic packing
Omega Esports is back in the lower bracket finals after a 3-0 annihilation of Onic Philippines in Day 3 of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 9 playoffs on Saturday.
The defending MLBB Southeast Asian Cup champions will need another win on Sunday to get the chance to defend their title in the June 2022 tournament. They will be facing the loser of the RSG Philippines and TNC Pro Team match later.
Onic opened the series with vindication, leaning on Kairi "Kairi" Rayosdelsol (Ling) to dominate the early goings scoring a 5-0-2 KDA by the 9th minute.
But not even Kairi's lord steal in the 10th minute could stop Omega's revival as the latter retaliated with a 4-0 wipe in the ensuing play.
Joshua "Ch4knu" Mangilog (Khufra) then completed comeback win with his signature another Tyrant's rage + flicker combo play to take down Jaylord "Hatred" Gonzales (Xavier) and Mark Christian "Markyyyyy" Capacio (Brody), 1-0.
In Game 2, both teams veered from team fights and took a standstill until Duane "Kelra" Pillas (Beatrix) scored a triple kill in a 13th minute lord fight that promptly gave Omega a 2-0 series lead.
Omega did not let up as Kelra continued his rampage, taking a 5-1-0 KDA by the 5th minute and exploding it into an 8-1-0 KDA in the 8th minute to spearhead a 9th minute 7k gold lead.
They never looked back from there and completed the sweep in dominant fashion.
