Rubilen Amit retains SEA Games 9-ball title with rout of Singaporean foe
Rubilen Amit successfully defended her title in the biennial meet after winning the gold medal anew in the women's 9-ball pool singles event of the 31st SEA Games on Tuesday at the Ha Dong Gymnasium in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The 40-year-old Amit, who ruled the 2019 edition against compatriot Chezka Centeno, bested Jessica Tan of Singapore in the race-to-seven face-off, 7-2, to reign supreme.
Amit got off to a rousing start, establishing a 3-0 lead over the opponent but Tan was quick to recover by inching closer to Amit, 3-2. Amit, though, went back on her game to win four consecutive sets en route to the win.
Aside from Amit, three medals from billiards are already in the bag for the Philippines as Efren "Bata" Reyes is already assured of at least a bronze medal in the men's one-cushion carom event.
Filipinos Carlo Biado and Johann Chua are also set to face in the men's 9-ball pool singles finals, securing the gold and silver plums for the Philippines.
