Alex Eala reaches semis of W60 Madrid after stunning Australian foe

Alex Eala pulled off an upset of Jaimee Fourlis of Australia, 6-1, 6-4, during their quarterfinal match in the W60 Madrid on Friday in Spain.

By beating the  WTA No. 182 Fourlis, Eala advanced to the semifinal stage where she will be pitted against the winner of the match between Carole Monnet of France and Katherine Sebov of Canada.

Eala previously defeated hometown bet Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers in their third round meeting, eking out a 0-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory while also escaping Lia Karatancheva of Bulgaria and Daniela Seguel of Chile in the earlier rounds.

Eala, 17, recently saw action in W25 Madrid where she had a short stint after falling to Alice Robbe of France in the quarterfinal stage.
