Max Holloway declares Volkanovski as MMA's no. 1 pound for pound fighter

Former UFC featherweight world champion Max Holloway has proclaimed Alexander Volkanovski as the best mixed martial artist on the planet following their epic trilogy in the co-main event of UFC 276 last weekend at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA.

Holloway suffered a unanimous decision loss against the current UFC featherweight world champion Volkanovski that put an end to his two-fight winning streak. It was his third defeat to the same opponent, having lost the first fight and absorbing a disputable split decision loss in the rematch in 2020.

"I'm still up 2-0 on knockdowns for the trilogy. Prob gonna need a fourth to settle this. Just playing. Congrats to my brother Alexander Volkanovski," Holloway wrote on Instagram.

"Go get that 55 strap. You earned the shot. You're #1 [pound-for-pound] right now. To all the fans do not cry for me Argentina. This is part of life. We need to rebuild and we will. I love you!"

Volkanovski, 25-1 as a professional mixed martial artist and currently ranked by the UFC as the no. 2 pound-for-pound fighter, expressed his desire to also compete in the lightweight division after his dominant win over Holloway, saying that he wants to be more active in the fight game.
