Folayang eyes rematch with ex-UFC champ Eddie Alvarez
Former ONE lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang of Baguio City’s Team Lakay is open to the idea of fighting former Bellator and UFC lightweight world champion Eddie Alvarez in a rematch.
The pair locked horns in 2019 in a fight where Folayang managed to hurt the American striker only to commit a mistake and lose the fight by submission in the first round. If given the chance, the Filipino mixed martial arts legend says he would like to run it back with Alvarez.
“That’s a great opportunity for me, it’s a great fight if that happens. It would be awesome if Alvarez vs. Folayang II does happen especially on my part,” Folayang said.
“I really feel that I could’ve done something more in our previous fight. It wasn’t the outcome that I wanted. We all know that we all make mistakes in life. Even a small error could lead to disaster. That’s why I’m willing that Alvarez vs. Folayang II does happen.”
Folayang, 37, last saw action inside the cage last March in an all-striking match against Muay Thai legend John Wayne Parr where he won via unanimous decision. Ready to get back to MMA, Folayang says he is ready to do whatever it takes to win if he gets a call to face Alvarez again.
“I feel that I have to drastically improve my striking and undergo an intense training camp if that fight with Eddie eventually happens,” Folayang quipped.
