Hate becomes first Filipino player in MPL MY with Team SMG signing
Malaysian esports squad Team SMG confirmed the signing of Filipino stalwart Jaylord "Hate" Gonzales through its Instagram account, where they unveiled their official roster for MPL Malaysia Season 10.
"Maligayang pagdating sa Team SMG Hate! For this season, we choose to embrace, celebrate, and empower our differences. We believe that strength lies in diversity," the team said in the announcement on Saturday night.
Hate will be joining a Malaysian squad who won the MPL MY championship in Season 8 and competed during the M3 World Championship in December 2021.
With the transfer, Hate became the first Filipino to be signed by a Malaysian professional Mobile Legends team and the latest development in the exodus of former Onic Philippines roster from MPL PH.
Only Nowee “Ryota” Cabailo remained in the Onic PH roster that won runner-up in the M3 World Championship.
Former Head Coach Denver "Yeb" Miranda and Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol is now with Indonesia's Onic Esports while other members are rumored to have signed with other MPL ID teams led by Allen “Baloyskie” Baloy (Geek Fam), Gerald “Dlarskie” Trinchera (Evos Legends) and Mark Christian “Markyyyyy” Capacio (Bigetron Alpha).
Substitute roamer Karl Mico “Micophobia” Quitlong moved to Nexplay Evos for Season 10.
