Alex Eala cruises to Round of 16 in US Open juniors

Alex Eala continued her hot start in the 2022 US Open girls' singles tournament as she entered the Round of 16 on early Tuesday (Manila time) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, United States.

The Filipina teen tennis sensation made quick work of Nina Vargova of Slovakia, 6-2, 6-3, in their second round meeting as Eala advanced in the Grand Slam event.

Eala, 17, committed six double faults against the 16-year-old Vargova, who recorded no double faults in the match that lasted for an hour and 15 minutes.

Prior to meeting Vargova, Eala had an impressive start in the competition after she pulled off a near clean 6-3, 6-0 victory over Canada's Annabelle Xu in the opening round last Sunday.

Eala will be hoping to barge to the quarterfinals stage when she faces Taylah Preston of Australia in the third round on Wednesday.

Eala, a two-time Grand Slam winner, is also looking to eclipse her quarterfinals appearance in the 2021 US Open where she bowed out of contention after a Round of 8 loss to Sebastianna Scilipoti.
