Blacklist secures playoff spot with sweep of Onic
Blacklist International recovered from back-to-back losses in style via a 2-0 win over Onic Philippines and secured a spot in the playoffs of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 10 on Friday.
The two-time MPL PH champion was winless in Week 6 after suffering from similar 2-1 losses to Omega Esports and Bren Esports, but scored a much-needed sweep of Onic to once again take league leadership with 22 points going into their last three season matches.
Onic unleashed a surprising draft in Game 1, where they chose to go with the jungling Minotaur. That delivered in a pivotal 10th minute lord fight, giving the Hedgehogs a 4-1 exchange plus the first lord of the match.
Blacklist though relied on marco movements to pick off Kenneth "Netskie" Barro (Irithel) in the 14th minute to make space for a luminous lord take that led to two inhibitor turret takedowns.
Everything went into a long standstill with no kills scored for a few minutes until Onic punished Blacklist during a 22nd base turret aggression. Stephen "Sensui" Castillo (Minotaur) executed a two-man Minoan Fury set-up leading to a 4-1 spearheaded by Nets' double kill.
Salic "Hadji" Imam, however, though refused to fold as he delivered a massive mechanical display in the 23rd minute during a 3v4 base turret defense where he single-handedly fended off the invasion with a double kill that built enough momentum for Blacklist to take the opener.
Blacklist did not give Onic a break in Game 2 as they pounced on their rivals early on, establishing a 6-0 kill spread and a 4k net worth lead by the 5th minute.
They played perfect the rest of the way, only dropping one outer turret and using a 12th minute luminous lord to complete the sweep with a commanding 8-1 kill tally.
