Alex Eala sweeps Croatian foe, cruises to W80 Poitiers semis

Alex Eala emerged victorious, outhustling Croatia's Ana Konjuh, 6-2, 6-3, in their quarterfinal clash in the W80 Poitiers in France on Friday.

The Filipina teen tennis sensation needed just one hour and 16 minutes to send the Croatian bet packing, building a quick 3-0 game lead in the opening set. Konjuh made it a 5-2 deficit before Eala eventually sealed the first set, 6-2.

Tied at 3-3 in the second frame, Eala made sure not to give Konjuh any confidence as she knocked down three straight points to complete the sweep.

Eala, who came all the way from the qualifying draw, previously bested Jessika Ponchet of France before asserting mastery over Vitalia Diatchenko and Konkjuh.

Eala will next face Ysaline Bonaventure later today for the semifinals.
