Brandon Vera announces retirement after TKO loss to Amir Aliakbari

Former ONE heavyweight world champion Brandon Vera announced his retirement from mixed martial arts following a technical knockout loss to Amir Aliakbari at ONE 164 this Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Vera, 45, gauged his foe in the opening round throwing calculated jabs and kicks that kept Alialbari at bay.

Aliakbari then took the fight on the mat where Vera gave his back, allowing the former to repeatedly punch his head which prompted the referee to halt the contest at the 3:37 mark of round one.

"You just witnessed The Truth's last fight in MMA. I wish I could have taken home the win [but] I broke my hand again," Vera announced.

The Filipino-American fan favorite called it quits with a record of 16-10.
