Alex Eala suffers early exit in Australian Open qualifiers debut

Alex Eala suffered an early exit in her pro grand slam debut in the Australian Open.

Eala, WTA no. 215, fell to WTA no. 172 Misaki Doi of Japan, 4-6, 7- 6(1), 6-3, in the qualifying match which lasted for 2 hours and 37 minutes on Monday.

With the win, Doi will face Brazil's Laura Piggosi in the second round of the qualifiers.

Prior to the Australian Open qualifiers, Eala absorbed a second round loss in the W60 Canberra qualifiers last week against Oksana Selekhmeteva, her partner in the 2021 French Open girls grand slam doubles.

Eala currently has three grand slam titles from the junior's events (2020 Australian Open doubles, 2021 French Open doubles, 2022 US Open singles) and two pro titles (2021 W15 Manacor and 2022 W25 Chiang Rai).
