Janry Ubas reigns in long jump to win his first SEA Games gold


Janry Ubas is now a Southeast Asian Games gold medalist.

Ubas won his first gold from the biennial meet on Tuesday after topping the men's long jump event. Ubas cleared the 7.85-meter mark to claim the gold medal.

Vietnam's Tien Trong Nguyen cleared 7.66 meters to finish second, while Indonesia's Sapwaturrahman Sapwaturrahman cleared 7.62 meters to place third.

Ubas also won a silver medal in the men's decathlon.

This is the Philippines' 23rd gold medal from the Cambodia games and the fourth today following golds from gymnasts Ivan Cruz (floor), Juancho Besana (vault), and Carlos Yulo (parallel bars).

In other events, Umajesty Williams (men's 400m), Sonny Wagdos (men's 5000m), and Joida Gagnao (women's 3000m steeplechase), claimed silver medals, while Frederick Ramirez (men's 400m), and Aries Toledo (men's decathlon) got bronze medals.
